It’s over 2 wks since I last blogged. Why? Dunno…
I’m still working on my blue marl encore pink wrap cardigan (that doesn’t sound like it makes sense, does it?)
I’m still working too much for too little.
I taught a 2 wk learn to knit class at the Webster Public Library. There were several requests for a crochet class there, so that might come up sometime.
I’ve applied for more jobs - and have heard nothing. For the most part, the applications seem to have the indication that it’s gone into an “active” file, ie, “Forgetaboutit - we’re not interested in you”
They’ve mentioned, yet again, that I would be good at one of the full-time positions at Jo-Ann’s. I’m beginning to entertain the thought.
I haven’t been walking enough, but miraculously the scale is finally beginning to move a little bit again.
I’ve been spending too much time on Ravelry, thinking about all the projects I should be doing and not getting much done on any of them
3 hrs til I leave for work - maybe I should go do some of that knitting right now!

Ravelry can be a huge timesuck. So today I was browsing groups for others to read and found the geek group and was (re)introduced to geek code blocks. There’s an article in Knitty.com a few years ago on the Knitters Geek Code, so here’s my geek code block. Can you tell what it say about me (the knitting me anyway - one day I’ll do the geek code block too)?

Tonight we had a support group meeting. I was late getting there (I left the house and realized I didn’t have my debit card… went back home and that’s STILL missing, so I was flustered and angry and late). The speaker was okay - the discussions generated were interesting, but made me pretty emotional at times. By the time we were done and doing roundtable, though, I was pulled together. I AM going to go tomorrow morning, finally, for my 6 month labs so I can call and make my long overdue 6 month followup appointment. I’m anxious about it (in a bad way) and also anxious about it to weigh in on their scales. It’s been months since I was weighed there, so it will be good to have a real number to tell people when they ask where I am.

I did this wordle thing today (click on it for a bigger image of it):

It surprised me which words were bigger than others. Work - I get it…. but crochet bigger than knitting? And done so big… must be I talked about all that is NOT done, huh?
Went to guild tonight. I dunno - they had already started the beginning of the meeting when I got there so I probably missed some explanations, but still, I felt kinda left hanging as far as what was going to be going on. The theme of the meeting was “finishing” and there were several mini-workshops and finishing elves wandering around offering to help with whatever finishing assistance they could offer. I was doing a miniworkshop on i-cord cast off. The sign said I-cord, and there wasn’t any write up in the newsletter telling what we’d do at the mini-workshops, so I’m not sure it was clear what was going to happen there, or what prep could be done in advance. Maybe it has more to do with the fact that I came home sick from work this morning and was not up to par.
Cheri has volunteered to be shop liason. I had suggested once the idea of doing a yarn store crawl kind of thing - bingo boards or something of that type. So, I talked to Cheri about it. Turns out she was thinking/talking about the same thing, so I told her I’d be glad to work with her on a project like that. I think it would be fun and encourage activity at shops that folks might not normally visit.
Despite having my MP3 player (that can have photos and video on it as well) for 9 or 10 months, I just last night finally got around to finding out how to add photos to it. A couple of weeks ago, my buddy from support group, S, showed me a little photo album that she carries in her purse w/ pictures from pre-surgery. I decided that I should do the same, but ended up putting them onto the MP3 player. It still blows me away when I see some of them… These are the ones I have on there now to show the “before”.

Tomorrow is support group for this month. I’m not as anxious to get there because I know I’m not doing everything that I should be…. I haven’t been walking as much as I was…. The home scales have been hovering around the same spot for almost 2 months…. I’ve branched out to eating things I probably shouldn’t more often that I should…. I haven’t been able to get to the lab for bloodwork so that I can get my 6 month followup done… Everybody keeps telling me how great I’m looking
, but I’m feeling guilty because I’m not sure I’m working as hard as I could/should be
Apparently my comments aren’t working - AGAIN - so I have to check into that.

Just a year ago, I had been to Dr. D’s seminar, but was still a few days away from my first appointment with him. At work, I was starting to have to do demos more frequently, which involved being on my feet for up to 4 hrs straight. I just about died on those days. I’d work and then CRASH. If I sat down at work after the demo, it felt impossible to motivate to get going again. When I got home, that was the end of the day for me.
Fast forward to yesterday, when things really hit home for me. I had 2 demos (4 hrs) to work and for some reason a few days ago I offered to work a 6 1/2 hr shift for someone else - all on my feet. Sure, I did get a “dinner” break and another short break. I sat for about 15 mins each of those times. Add it up - 10 hrs on my feet (and over 10K steps during that time) and I wasn’t dying! Sure, I didn’t spend a lot of time on my feet after that, but it was also after 10 when I got home and nearly time for bed anyway.
What a change and damn does it feel good to have that hit home for me!
On the crafting front, I’ve been working on my sweater (did I mention it yet) from Fons & Porters’ Love of Knitting. It’s the Pink wrap Cardigan, if you have the magazine (couldn’t find a pic out on the web yet). I got Plymouth Encore in a blue marl color. I decided that I need to change the pattern a bit (big surprise). I started with a provisional CO just above the back (garter stitch) border and knitted 13″ to where you start to CO for the sleeves. I’m going to do the border all in one piece later so that the entire outer edge is one cast off, not some cast on, some cast off and lots of sections that have been seamed together. It’ll take forever to do that part, and I may not actually add the 2″ that I’m intending if I get bored too quickly, but I think I’ll be happier with the results nonetheless. Anyway, it only took 1 ball to get that 13″ done and I got 8 balls of it, so I’m feeling pretty comfortable at this point that I’ll be okay with getting it done with the yarn that I have.
I’m cursing whoever decided the amigurumi class at work had to be done with a DOUBLE STRAND OF FUN FUR. Grrrrr. Did they actually MAKE one of these things? We all know I’m opposed to Fun Fur in almost all cases, but really… crochet with a double strand of that and nothing else? I’m sorely tempted to do my own thing and combine a strand of fun fur w/ a strand of something (anything) else so I can possibly see the stitches.
Apparently I’m not totally opposed to Fun Fur since I was caught buying 2 balls today - one of red and one of festive white. It’s not to crochet with, though… it’s for lockerhooking ornaments. Really! And, I don’t mind knitting little animal-type things with it because I can see each of the stitches - they are all on my needles. Crochet, though, is NUTS!
Congrats to the baby girl. She passed her certification exam to be a Music Therapist. Qualifies her to work anywhere EXCEPT NY. Gotta love NYS, huh?
